Sassy

It’s amazing how long you can live in a place and not know the best hot spots and venues to have a great time. One may be right down your street and you wouldn’t know it. If this has ever happened to you, don’t worry you’re not alone. When a group of friends experienced the same phenomena, they did something spectacular to change all that. They decided to get Sassy. No not rude and cheeky, but their company Sassy Media Group. Sassy works to help share and spread the word about the hottest and most interesting venues in your city.

As of right now Sassy currently operates in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, but will soon open its doors to Manila.

After deciding it was time to freshen things up a bit for their websites, the company got in contact with Chillybin to help in the implementation of the redesign and rebranding of all their websites: Sassy Hong Kong, Sassy Singapore, Sassy Australia, and the yet to be launched Sassy Manila. This was a pretty large project, so we had our work cut out for us. With the designs provided, we got to work turning their fresh designs into beautiful markup and stylesheets for the sites.

To kick things off, we used the CSS extension language SASS as well as the Genesis Framework as the core and backbone of the sites, adding the rich functionality and robustness needed for the project. We also decided to use the Bones for Genesis Framework assist in creating the customised responsive Genesis child themes for the websites. One of the cooler features we implemented for Sassy Media Group is having two menu types. There is a static fixed navigation menu that goes with you as you scroll the page. Then there is a special canvas menu that floats the the left of the screen which is optimised for mobile viewing. We set them up with Sassy Picks, which is an affiliate marketing that easily integrates with ShopBop.

In addition to everything else, we created a custom search page and utilised both FacetWP and SearchWP to provide them with a search directory that allows visitors to search for venues and vendors by multiple categories, as well as by proximity near them. Lastly, we set them up with integrated advertising and popup notifications as well as social media integration to help them build their following and connect with their readers. While this was a larger project, it was a really fun one, and the client is happy with the end result.

The team at Sassy wrote about the redesign in a bit more detail as well: Sassy gets a Makeover!
